spring cleaning {part one}

 It is that time of the year again... time to detox, exercise, and spring clean...your entire life & most importantly your wardrobe!

Put on your big girl (comfy) pants, tie your hair up, brace yourself, open the closet... and GO!
I believe in you! I know this is very difficult for you, as we all have attachments to every single article of clothing in our closets, and each one has a story behind it. Whether it be the first time you wore it  out on that hot date which then lead to your happily ever after, or when you bought it while you were in Florida with your family during your last full family vacation together. Whatever the reason may be, there is always a reason why you 'can't' get rid of something.

However, it is your year to get rid of that shirt that has been hanging in the back of your closet for  4 years and only been worn once, as well as those jeans you KNOW you won’t ever wear again... ditch them girl! They are taking up valuable space, and are always just a disappointment.

I know I know, it is always easier to say than do... you have thrown that sweater in the donation bag a million times, but always pull it back out, give it a hug, fold it neatly, and put it back into your closet where it will sit for another year until you attempt to get rid of it again.

So here is my challenge to you... and to myself! {did you think you were going to be on your own?}
For the next several weeks WE are going to wear everything we own... No, not all at once! But over the course of the next few weeks... or months if you need...everything you own will be worn! If you find that every day you think you might wear that pink sweater, but can’t bring yourself to do it... put it in a bag,  and tell yourself someone else could use this more than you can.* {now leave it there}

Congratulations you just made one giant step toward detoxifying your closet and wardrobe! {Pat yourself on the back girl! Remember; one step at a time}

Now do this with all the pieces of clothing you know you have tried to wear 101 times, but never have and never will. As for all those "but maybe" items, put them in a pile and see what outfits you can make with each item, and decide what you need to add to your wardrobe in order for you to wear this one thing. Make a list of items you ‘think’ you need,  put them on your wish list, and start saving. *Remember you only want to keep items of clothing that you can and will wear MORE than once a year.

Repeat the above until you have gone through and sorted all clothing and you are ready to donate that bag of clothing to your nearest donation bin or thrift store. Remember, this is not only to benefit you, your organization, and your closet space, but it is also in turn benefiting millions of people who do not have the luxury of owing closets full of clothing.
